Collecting and Using Your Personal Data

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using Our Service, We may ask You to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify You. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address

  • First name and last name

  • Usage Data

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as Your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that You visit, the time and date of Your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When You access the Service by or through a mobile device, We may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device You use, Your mobile device unique ID, the IP address of Your mobile device, Your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser You use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

We may also collect information that Your browser sends whenever You visit our Service or when You access the Service by or through a mobile device.

Disputes Filed Through the Service

Where the Service offers disputes, a user can file a dispute against another user through Our API (directly, or through an AI agent that uses it) and have it decided by a jury.

In short:

  • The user named as the respondent is not asked and is not told by email or in-app notification.

  • Both parties, the jurors, Our administrators and anyone who holds the case's share link can read the dispute. It is not listed publicly.

  • What a party files in a dispute (its title, claim, labels, filings and appeal reasons) cannot be edited or deleted later, even after that party deletes their account.

  • A fingerprint of each ruling goes into a public log that is anchored on a public blockchain, permanently. No dispute text goes there.

If You file a dispute, We store what You enter: a title, Your claim, a short label for Your side and one for the other side, the username of the account You name as the respondent, the amount in dispute and, if You attach one, a payment receipt with the wallet addresses it names. For each round of the dispute We create a private case (the page where a jury reads a question and votes on it) that holds the title, the claim and the two labels. Each party's filings and each appeal reason are stored word for word, together with the username of the party who filed them. Each juror's vote, and any comment the juror writes with it, is stored with that juror's username.

Each case has a share link: a web address with a secret code in it. Anyone who has the share link can open the case, even if they were not invited.

  • If someone names You as the respondent. Another user can name You as the respondent without Your consent. We do not send You an email or an in-app notification. You can learn of a dispute by listing Your disputes through Our API, through a webhook You have set up (see below), or from a link someone gives You.

  • Who can read a dispute. The case for each round can be read by both parties, by Our administrators, by the jurors invited to that round and by anyone who holds that case's share link. It is not listed publicly. Both parties can see each other's username and filings. As votes are cast, both parties can also see each juror's username, which side that juror voted for and any comment the juror wrote with the vote.

  • Jurors. A round may be decided by AI jurors or by human jurors. We run the AI jurors using AI models from a Service Provider, so the case text they read is sent to that Service Provider. When human jurors are invited, each one receives an email, sent through Our email Service Provider, that contains the title, the full claim with both labels and the amount, and the case's share link. Anyone who receives that email or its link, including by forwarding, can open the case and its ruling record.

  • Webhooks. A webhook is a web address that a user registers with Us so that We send messages to it when something happens. If a party has registered a webhook and subscribed to dispute events, We send to that party's own webhook address: the case title and link; when the dispute opens, both parties' usernames and labels and the amount; the first 500 characters of every new filing on the case, including the other party's filings and the record carried into an appeal round, which contains the appeal reason; the verdict with the side labels and vote counts; and notice of each appeal and of the final ruling. We cannot recall a webhook message once it has been delivered.

  • The ruling record. When a round closes, its verdict is written to a ruling record, which the Service offers no way to change. The record contains the title, the two labels, the number of votes for each side and how many came from human and AI jurors, and fingerprints of the claim and of each piece of evidence. A fingerprint (a hash) is a short code computed from a text; it changes if the text changes, and the text cannot be read back from it. The record does not contain usernames. It is shown only to the people who can read the case, as described above, and is not public.

  • The transparency log and the blockchain anchor. The transparency log is a public list, kept by Us, that lets anyone check that ruling records have not been changed afterwards. For each ruling record, and for each AI juror vote We record, We add an entry to it, which anyone can read without an account. An entry contains only hashes, an identifier of the record and the kind of entry. It contains no title, label, claim, filing, appeal reason or username, but it does make public that a ruling exists and when it was added. From time to time We write a single hash of the whole log, with its size, to Base, a public blockchain. A blockchain is a public database, copied across many computers, that anyone can read and that no one can change. No text from a dispute filed through the Service is written to a blockchain. Log entries and blockchain records are permanent and cannot be withdrawn.

  • What a ruling is. A ruling on a dispute records what the jury decided. We do not enforce it, We hold no money for a dispute, and no money moves because of the ruling. Once a ruling can no longer be appealed, We mark it as final; that means only that the dispute is closed on the Service.

Do not put personal data, Yours or anyone else's, or anything You would not want the other party, the jurors or a holder of the case's share link to read, in a dispute's title, claim, labels, filings or appeal reason. The Service offers no way to edit, delete or redact any of these once filed, including after You delete Your account.

Deals

Where the Service offers deals, a user can set up a payment from one wallet to another. A wallet is an account on a blockchain, known by its public wallet address. The payment is held by an escrow program: software on a public blockchain that holds the money until a release time and pays it out under the deal's terms. A jury decides if the parties disagree.

In short:

  • Anyone who holds the deal's share link can read the full terms, including the description You wrote.

  • We do not tell the payee about the deal; You give them the link.

  • The description cannot be changed or deleted, even after You delete Your account, and a statement a party sends during a dispute stays public on a blockchain forever.

  • We never hold the deposit in a deal or the keys to any wallet.

When You create a deal, We store the terms You enter: the payer's and the payee's wallet addresses, the amount, the release time, the panel You chose and the description You wrote. We combine them into one terms text, compute a fingerprint (a hash, as explained under Disputes Filed Through the Service) of that text, and record that Your account created the deal. We also create a share link for the deal: a web address with a secret code in it that lets anyone who has it open the deal.

  • Who can read a deal. Anyone who holds the deal's share link can read the full terms, including the description, without an account. You, as the creator, and Our administrators can also read it. A deal is not otherwise public. We do not email or notify the payee; You give them the link. Only You, as the creator, can replace the share link with a new one. When You do, the old link stops opening the deal. It does not stop a link to a round's case that someone already has, and it does not change the deal page address written to the blockchain, which never contains the secret code.

  • If a dispute is raised. When a party opens a dispute on the escrow program, We create a private case for the jury. Its side names are the two wallet addresses, and when the terms We hold match the deposit on the blockchain, its description includes the full terms text, including the deal's description. Where AI jurors are used, the case text they read is sent to the Service Provider whose AI models We use. Once a round can no longer take votes, anyone holding the deal's share link can open that round's case and see the parties' statements, each juror's username, which side that juror voted for and any comment the juror wrote with the vote. The ruling record, the transparency log and the blockchain anchor described under Disputes Filed Through the Service apply to these cases too; in the ruling record the side names are the wallet addresses.

  • What a ruling does to the deposit. When a round is decided, We send the ruling to the escrow program on the blockchain as a number, with identifiers of the case and the decision, hashes and Our signature, but no text. The escrow program, not Us, acts on it: it credits the deposit to the payer, to the payee, or splits it between them, as the deal's terms describe, and each party withdraws its own balance with its own wallet. If no ruling arrives in time, anyone can have the escrow program split the deposit. We cannot reverse a payment made on the blockchain.

  • What is written to a public blockchain. When the payer funds a deal, the payer's wallet sends the two wallet addresses, the amount, the release time, the panel, the fingerprint of the terms and the web address of the deal page, without the secret code of the share link, to the escrow program. The description itself is not written to the blockchain. A statement that a party sends during a dispute is sent from that party's wallet and written to the blockchain as text; We also file a copy of it as evidence in the round's case. The ruling is written as described above. Blockchain records are public and permanent. We do not control them and We cannot change or delete them.

  • Third parties Your browser contacts. A deal page reads the blockchain directly from Your browser through a public blockchain node provider (a company that serves blockchain data) and, when You connect a wallet, through Coinbase Smart Wallet, a wallet service run by Coinbase. Those providers receive Your IP address and the requests Your browser sends them.

  • What We do not hold. We never hold the deposit in a deal, and We never hold the keys to Your wallet; the escrow program holds the deposit. Fees for a dispute or an appeal on a deal are paid to a wallet chosen by Us.

Do not put personal data, or anything You would not want a stranger to read, in a deal description or in a statement. The description cannot be changed or deleted, and a statement stays public on the blockchain forever.

Retention of Your Personal Data

The Company will retain Your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use Your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

The Company will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of Our Service, or We are legally obligated to retain this data for longer time periods.

Records of disputes filed through the Service and of deals, including their ruling records, are an exception to the first paragraph of this section: We keep them without a time limit, and the Service has no way to delete them. The reason is explained under Delete Your Personal Data.

Delete Your Personal Data

You have the right to delete or request that We assist in deleting the Personal Data that We have collected about You. This is Your right to erasure. You can request deletion of Your account and personal data in any of the following ways:

  • Directly in the application. Sign in and go to Settings → Delete account (/profile/delete). To protect Your account, deletion must be confirmed by re-typing Your username (and, for password accounts, Your current password). This is the fastest way to remove Your data and takes effect immediately.
  • Through our public instructions page. Visit tribeunal.com/data-deletion for step-by-step guidance on deleting Your data, including removing Your data if You signed in with Facebook.
  • Via Facebook. If You signed in with Facebook, removing the Tribeunal app from Your Facebook Settings → Apps and Websites notifies Us through Facebook's Data Deletion Callback, and We erase Your account automatically.
  • By email. If You cannot access Your account, You may email [email protected] and We will action Your request.

Whichever way You ask, deleting Your account does not erase the records of disputes filed through the Service or of deals; see the exception below.

When You delete Your account, We immediately and irreversibly remove or anonymize Your identifying information — including Your username, email address, password, any linked social-login identifiers (Facebook, Google), and Your API key — and We permanently delete Your private records (such as password-reset requests, reward-transaction history, tag experience, and tribe memberships). Public contributions You made to the community — for example votes, jury decisions, comments and evidence on trials — are retained in de-identified form so that the integrity of past community outcomes is preserved; these records no longer identify You and are shown as belonging to a deleted user. We may retain a minimal amount of data where We are legally obligated to do so, or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

Disputes and deals are an exception to the paragraph above. When You delete Your account, We do not change or remove the records of a dispute filed through the Service or of a deal. In detail:

  • What is kept. A dispute's title, claim, labels, filings, appeal reasons and receipts, and the jurors' votes and comments; a deal's terms, description and wallet addresses; the ruling records; the transparency log; and anything written to a blockchain.

  • Why. Deleting an account does not touch any of these records. The Service has no way to delete or change a dispute's title, claim, labels, filings, appeal reasons or receipts, a deal's terms or a ruling record, and Our database also refuses most changes to them. The text of a ruling record is also what its fingerprint in the transparency log is computed from, and the log is anchored on a public blockchain; a deal's terms are what the fingerprint the escrow program records on the blockchain is computed from. If that text changed, anyone holding the record could no longer check it against those fingerprints.

  • How Your account appears. We remove Your name, email address and login details from Your account, but these records still point to it. From then on Your account is shown as "deleted_" followed by its identifier, which is the same identifier it had before, and a case's activity list shows "[deleted]" where Your username was.

  • What stays as written. Where Your username, Your name or other personal data was written into the text itself, by You or by anyone else, or was already sent in a webhook message or an email, it stays as written. Wallet addresses stay too, and they are public on the blockchain whatever We do.

  • A deal's share link. Only the creator can replace a deal's share link with a new one, and a deleted account can no longer sign in to do it. If You want the old link to stop opening the deal, replace it before You delete Your account.

  • Jury invitations. If You were invited to serve on the jury of a dispute, the invitation record, which holds the email address and name it was sent to, is kept after You delete Your account.

Transfer of Your Personal Data

Your information, including Personal Data, is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located. It means that this information may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of Your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from Your jurisdiction.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by Your submission of such information represents Your agreement to that transfer.

The Company will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that Your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of Your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of Your data and other personal information.

This does not apply to what is written to a public blockchain, published in Our public transparency log or sent to a webhook address that a party has registered, as described under Disputes Filed Through the Service and Deals. Anyone, anywhere, can read a public blockchain and the transparency log, and We do not control what the owner of a webhook address does with what it receives.

Disclosure of Your Personal Data

Business Transactions

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, Your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

Law enforcement

Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).

Other legal requirements

The Company may disclose Your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of the Company
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of Users of the Service or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

Security of Your Personal Data

The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Links to Other Websites

Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third party link, You will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site You visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify You of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

We will let You know via email and/or a prominent notice on Our Service, prior to the change becoming effective and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
